The 8815 go kart, released in 1991, was extremely similar to the previous set 1972.  There were dual tires at each corner for extra width and a roughly square wheelbase.  The steering used the flexible rack assembly.  One rear wheel drove a single cylinder reciprocating engine.  None of the new 1991 parts were used on this model.

There's nothing groundbreaking in this set, but you get introduced to a lot of features for a small price.

Steering

The front wheels can be steered using a wheel at the driver's position.  The wheel drives an axle connected to a 8 tooth pinion gear.  The gear drives a flexible rack.  The steering mechanism itself uses steering arms and toothed links.

This model effectively has tilt steering since the angle of the steering column can be changed.

Engine

This model uses a one cylinder reciprocating engine driven from the right rear wheel.  The cylinder block is tilted back at an angle of about 45 degrees.

The engine is made from a cylindrical engine element.   The wheel axle connects to the crankshaft of the engine.  The crankshaft is offset 1/2 stud from center, giving the piston a stroke of 1 stud.

Wheels and Tires

This set uses eight small rubber tires and standard old white wheels.
